OSES Ventures to Ireland for the First Time!
The 11th OSES Annual Symposium takes place July 7 - July 9, Summer 2027. This year’s home is vibrant Cork, Ireland, a historic harbour city on the island’s southern coast, with sessions hosted at University College Cork (UCC). This event brings together researchers, industry players and policy makers dedicated to driving the development and growth of offshore renewables and energy storage. This event follows a number of successful events held in Windsor, Canada; Edinburgh, Scotland; Valletta, Malta; Cape Cod, USA; Ningbo, China; Brest, France; St. Julian’s, Malta; New Bedford, USA; Bari, Italy; and Delft, Netherlands.
Glacaigí An Dúshlán! | Take Up The Challenge!
Many of the institutions we have long relied upon to lead on climate action are facing significant headwinds. Commitments are softening, priorities are drifting, and the urgency of the climate crisis is too often deferred to another day. Yet the science has not changed, and neither has the need to make offshore renewables and energy storage more reliable, more affordable, and more scalable. Truly international, established Research Communities like OSES cannot wait for the political winds to turn. Where so many in power look away, we must look harder, doing the technoeconomic work and building the evidence that makes the case impossible to ignore. Glacaigí An Dúshlán! Take Up The Challenge!
Do You Know Cork?

-
River City Charm & Rebel Spirit: Cork is built on an island between two channels of the River Lee. It is a compact, walkable city of bridges, quays, and lively laneways, with a proudly independent streak that earned it the name “the Rebel City.”
-
The English Market: A covered food market that has been trading since 1788, at the heart of Cork’s reputation as Ireland’s food capital.
-
Shandon Bells & St Fin Barre’s: Climb the tower of St Anne’s, Shandon, and ring its famous bells yourself, then visit the soaring Gothic spires of St Fin Barre’s Cathedral.
-
Cobh & the Great Harbour: A short train ride away, the colourful town of Cobh was the Titanic’s last port of call. It sits on one of the world’s largest natural harbours.
-
Gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way: Cork is a short trip from Blarney Castle and its famous stone, gourmet Kinsale, and the rugged coastline of West Cork. The city blends Irish tradition with the student energy of UCC, home to the MaREI research centre for energy, climate and marine.
MEET YOUR OSES2027 CONFERENCE CHAIRS
Jimmy Murphy
Dr. Jimmy Murphy is a Senior Lecturer in Harbour and Coastal Engineering and Offshore Renewable Energy in the School of Engineering at University College Cork. There he leads the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Research Group within the MaREI Centre and directs the Lir National Ocean Test Facility, Ireland’s national laboratory for testing offshore wind, wave and tidal energy devices. With expertise in coastal engineering, ocean processes and the behaviour of marine structures, he combines field monitoring, numerical modelling and physical testing to address the industry’s needs, from technology development to levelised cost of energy modelling. Jimmy has coordinated major EU programmes advancing the offshore renewable energy sector, including LEANWIND, MaRINET2 and MARINERG-i. He holds a PhD in Coastal/Geotechnical Engineering and has published extensively in coastal engineering and offshore renewable energy.
Frances Judge
Dr. Frances Judge is a Lecturer in Energy Engineering in the School of Engineering at University College Cork and a member of the Offshore Renewable Energy Research Group at the Research Ireland MaREI Centre in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork. With expertise in offshore renewable energy logistics, technoeconomic and lifecycle financial analysis of offshore wind farms, and laboratory testing of offshore energy devices, she explores strategies to reduce costs and de-risk the development of next-generation floating offshore wind. Frances’s work has advanced installation modelling for floating offshore wind farms, numerical wave basin development and standardised testing methodologies across European research facilities. She coordinates UCC’s MEngSc in Sustainable Energy and its Postgraduate Certificate in Offshore Renewable Energy. She holds a PhD in Coastal Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, is a Chartered Engineer, and has published widely in offshore and renewable energy systems.
